Mathematics is an intellectual endeavour, a powerful means of communication and a tool for studying other disciplines. It is valuable in helping students develop necessary skills for lifelong learning.
Mathematics aims at developing in students:
(a) the ability to communicate, inquire, explore, reason logically, and to apply mathematical knowledge to solve a variety of problems;
(b) the ability to manipulate numbers, symbols and other mathematical objects;
(c) a number sense, symbol sense, spatial sense and measurement sense;
(d) a positive attitude in learning, and the ability to appreciate the precise and aesthetic nature of mathematics.
